7 Scotland - A green, agrarian nation that has thwarted off many invaders.

Alice and Malcolm have been married for 4 years already, but this is their first year house together after so long. Life called, and they had to see to their own goals before they could make a home. The MacNeils are a richer family, and Alice has spent the last few years touring with her father along Britain acting for the masses. Now at home on the edge of a large city, she plans to do portrait painting for income. Malcolm has spent these years at home alongside the city, busy taking over the Ballendalloch Clothiers after his uncle’s passing.

For a summer month the Ballendallochs pack up to go visit the MacNeils - Alice’s favorite grandfather has returned from France after a decade! Everyone adores talking with this wise art critic, although Malcolm is displeased with Humfrey MacNeil’s insults on Scottish tailorship. To give the old man a reason to have pride in his country’s art, Malcolm creates a matching coat and shoes of the MacNeil tartan on one of Humfrey’s outings. The MacNeil grandfather is very impressed by the result, and vows to wear them often in the chill of a Scottish winter.

At the waning of winter baby Domhnall is born, resembling his grandfather Humfrey in every way - which is fate’s way of playing a trick on you after you played one on me, Mr. MacNeil insists - and after a quick recovery Alice gave in to the community’s bewailing and tried her hand at a minor stage tournament, which she won by a very large margin. Her appearance packed the event’s floors, and the applaud was deafening for this local hero.

Alice and Malcolm have always enjoyed each other’s quiet and mannered natures, so this year becomes a test on their patience as their children become quite the opposite of that. First Hesther and Oswald become restless and bored from having loud Ninian and needy Domhnall around, so Malcolm brings home a pretty, small conure named Ibb (who they chose purely for her silence). Not a week passes until Wilmot carries home an unusually ginger dead rat that starts crying like a kitten - her new feline friend is named Noll, and both him and Wilmot thankfully don’t disturb Ibb. However, things may never be peaceful again, because Ninian’s newfound passion for dancing has him dancing around every corner of his father’s shop, until one autumn day he’s found dancing on the neighboring rooftop disturbing the doctor during a tooth pulling. The doctor says he wasn’t bothered, as it drowned out the screams of his patient, but he called the city guards there regardless because Ninian wouldn’t say how he got up or how to get down. A ladder was in order; Alice and Malcolm were not pleased.

The year begins with a mystic going along the roads, speaking of happiness and bonding and blessings in everyone’s lives. A baby girl is born a week later, making the family very happy; Ninian especially adores Ysenda, because she looks so much like him. They become close fast, and Ninian is happier as he’s never gotten along with his other siblings so well before.

Amidst the rumors of a revolution (of which the Ballendalloch-MacNeil household is apathetic) the house gets rowdier and more loving with each day. Alice has her hands full birthing and tending to Ysenda and baby Harman, so Malcolm has to shoulder the instability of the tyrannous two. Hesther has become calmer, thankfully, collecting her insects and occasional mouse like a curious kitten-child, but tricky Oswald helped her hide all the creatures under the floorboards in the children’s rooms: she merely wanted to keep them safe from the outside world, but Ossie finds Domhnall’s screaming about crickets in his bed hilarious.

Everyone is happy, besides Domhnall who cries when his best friend Papa leaves him at home to go work at the Clothiers - being a 4-year-old middle child is an Atlas-esque burden.
