Even though I write science fiction and fantasy novels, I agree I wouldn't name my daughter something I thought needed a pronunciation guide or sounded like a name I'd use in one of my novels, even ones I think are pretty.
Pardon if I say that your last sentence made me laugh - snottiness is what it is, you can call it discriminating if you like. I was more concerned with the cultural implications of your comments than the highbrow part.
