Meaning & History
From the characters 常(cháng, meaning “always” or “frequent”) and 先 (xiān, meaning “first”). Changxian was one of the prominent retainers serving the Yellow Emperor (Xuanyuan) along with Fenghou and Limu. According to legend, he contributed to the war against Chiyou by inventing the first war drum, using the skin of the Kui (a mythical ox-like creature with only one leg) for the drum surface and the thigh bones of the Leishou (thunder beast) as drumsticks.
