Year 1- Family Vacation
Mike and I recently moved to Minneapolis. We really love the city and our cute two bedroom apartment! Mike is currently working for a small grocery co-op and I am a environmental blogger for a local newspaper. We also just got back from a wonderful vacation to stay with family in Florida. We went to Universal Studios, saw some awesome wildlife, and spent lots of time at the beach! But it is good to be back home!
Year 2- Job
This has been a really nice year for us. Mike has started working part-time since my job is going so well. It's great for him because he can spend time learning new things and enjoying life. And it's nice for me since I work from home and get to see him a lot more! :)
Year 3- Family Event
Mike and I love Minneapolis! We have a beautiful (although small) apartment, great jobs, and we've made a lot of good friends while living here. Recently a couple that we are friends with had a baby boy, James Oliver, and asked us to be his Godparents. We are not Catholic, but we were very honored! We've been friends with them since we moved here and Bethany and I get along great because we are both really into photography and Mike and Lewis work together and both love music, so it works out really well. Little James is so cute and I am very excited to be his Godmother.
Year 4- Travel
Mike and I got the chance to travel to Austria for a week. It was beautiful! We both love to travel and have always wanted to visit other countries, and Austria was definitely a great first! The people are so nice and it is such a beautiful place. I did an article for the newspaper blog I work for about the country's environmental efforts, so that was really neat. I hope we can go back some day! We both loved it there!
Year 5- Move
We have moved to Ireland! I can't believe it! :) I have always wanted to live in Ireland for a while and was so excited when I was offered a job there as an editor for a large news organization there for the blogging team. We found a beautiful flat in Dublin and have fallen in love with the city, people, and culture. We miss Minneapolis and our friends there, but this is an exciting new adventure! :)
Year 6- Life Long Dream
We thought last year was amazing, but this year has been incredible! Not only do we get to live in an amazing city, but Mike and I have started our own non-profit organization! We have always wanted to and after a lot of planning and discussions we finally decided it was time. It is a organization to help villages and poor countries around the world implement new ways of earning money while helping the environment, wildlife, and people. We help them with eco-tourism and bring in volunteers to teach, learn, and help out. It really is an amazing thing and we can't believe how fast it caught on or how big it has grown! I am still working as an editor, but our organization keeps us both very busy!
Year 7- Adoption
We have a daughter! While on a visit to one of our staff bases in Nairobi, Kenya, Mike and I went to an orphanage and met the most beautiful baby girl! She was only a couple weeks old at the time and we were told her young mother had died from an infection and an old woman from the slum they were living in brought her to the orphanage. After deciding that we wanted to start a family, we felt strongly pulled towards adoption which is why we decided to visit that day. The adoption process took about six months, but she is officially our daughter now! She did not have a name when we met her, and the ladies at the home just called her "tiny" because she was so little and malnourished when she came to them. Mike and I decided to name her Hadley Imara Casey. She is now 7 months old and is getting chubbier. :)
Year 8- Birth
Hadley is now almost 2 years old and she now has a baby sister! :) My pregnancy was a surprise so soon after the adoption, but we were very excited and Hadley loves her new sister! She has dark brown hair and blue eyes and looks a lot like her daddy! We named our new daughter Clea Eudora Casey. She is so tiny and sweet! Hadley is getting much bigger. We can't believe how fast she picked up new words and she is already speaking small sentences. She even has a bit of an Irish accent when she says some things! :)
Year 9- Random
Hadley and Clea are getting so big! Hadley is now 3 years old and is such a cutie. She loves going to the park and playing with her daddy. We started taking her to preschool classes this year and she loves being with the other kids. She definitely has an Irish accent now and I love it. :) Clea is now 1 year old and just started walking! Her hair is curly like her daddy's and she has the chubbiest face. It's so cute seeing Hadley and Clea playing together. They are such good sisters! I haven't been working at the paper since we adopted Hadley, but our organization keeps me busy. I have also started sewing and making clothes for the girls, which is a lot of fun. I'm pretty proud of myself actually! :)
Year 10- Random
We have a new addition to The Casey family, a brown and white cat named Luther! Hadley, who is now 4 years old, has been begging for a pet and we decided she was old enough now to learn how to take care of one so we adopted Luther from the local shelter. He is a few years old and is very sweet and lazy. Clea, who is now 2, loves him too, but has to be watched around him because she tends to attack him rather than love on him! :p
Year 11- Adoption
We just brought home our new baby boy! :) We have been working on adopting another child for about a year now and finally got to bring him home. We chose Cambodia this time because we felt it would be the right place after a visit there last year. Our new son is a year old now, but was only a month old when he was brought the orphanage after his parents who were farmers were killed by land mines. We decided to name our little boy Basil Murray Casey. He is so sweet and his sisters (now 5 and 3) love him so much!
Year 12- Pet
I can't believe how big Basil is getting! He is 2 years old now and such a boy! Hadley (6) and Clea (4) love having a little brother to play with, but he likes to do his own thing most of the time. Playing in the dirt and chasing the cat is more fun than dress up! We actually just welcomed another cat to the family. He is a year old, all white, and named Boaz. Some friends of ours had to move away and couldn't take him with them, so we happily adopted him! :) Our family keeps growing and our three bedroom flat is feeling very small!
Year 13- Move
We've moved! We are now living in London, England were we have relocated our organization's headquarters. I've always wanted to live in London, so we jumped at the opportunity when it was presented. Hadley, Clea, and Basil (now 7, 5, and 3) love the change and are enjoying having more space in our new 4 bedroom townhouse/flat. Mike and I are too! London is such an awesome city and we love it here!
Year 14- Family Vacation
This year we decided to take a three week vacation to the states to visit family and friends. The kids (now 8, 6, and 4) had a great time and so did we! Everyone loved seeing the Hadley, Clea, and Basil (and hearing their adorable accents which are now some sort of an Irish, English, American mix). It was nice to take a long vacation and spend time with the kids and each other! But we are glad to be back home in London now!
Year 15- Adoption
We just adopted a two year old little boy from Kazakhstan. We have been talking about adopting again for a while now and when we saw his picture we knew he was ours. He is such a sweet, cuddly boy and gets along great with his new sisters (now 9 and 7), but especially his big brother Basil (now 5)! We decided to name our sweet little boy Aldo Hiram Casey.
Year 16- Lifelong Dream
We've had a great year! Hadley (now 10) loves music and just started playing violin at school and she is also starting football/soccer next year. Clea (now 8) is becoming quite the artist and has her artwork hanging all over the house! Basil (now 6) is our wild boy, but can spend hours sitting and reading books. Aldo (now 3) is such a sweetie and loves animals. Basil loves reading his little brother books about animals and we visit the zoo often. Mike and I decided to take a trip by ourselves this year to Australia. I have loved Australia since I was little and am so happy we were able to go! We spent a week and a half traveling all over the country and saw amazing wildlife and had an awesome time! :)
Year 17- Travel
We took the kids (11,9,7,4) to France for the summer. It was a much needed vacation for all of us since we have had such a busy year. The kids loved running around outside the country house we rented and Mike and I enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine and spending time alone as a family!
Year 18- Pet
This year we decided to buy a horse (kept at a stable of course, since we don't have room for him in our flat!) so the kids (12,10,8,5) can take riding lessons. His name is Willie and he is wonderful! We all love going to the stable and visiting him. Mike and I were surprised by how naturally horseback riding seemed to come to the kids. They all love it!
Year 19- Celebration
I can't believe our Hadley is 13 already! She is so grown up and mature though that sometimes she seems more like 18. For her birthday we had a big celebration with all her friends at the stable and rented horses for everyone to ride on the trails. Afterwards she had a sleepover and a birthday cake. Of course we also had parties for Clea (11), Basil (9), and Aldo (6)!
Year 20- Birth
Mike and I didn't expect to be adding to our family at the age of 42, but we are very excited to welcome our new twin girls into our family! Obviously the pregnancy was a surprise to all of us, but the kids (14,12,10,7) love their new sisters and we are all enjoying having two little babies in the house! They both have light brown hair and brown eyes and I think look a little more like me than Mike. We decided to name our new baby girls Adriana Blythe Casey and Lida Eugenia Casey. Mike and I love having such a big family! :)
