Agatha - Maybe but the similarity in sound to agony and hag is off putting.
Ailsa - I could see this coming back.
Bess - Definitely in the UK, I've seen a few birth annoucements for little Bessies and I know a baby
Betsy.
Blanche - Still old ladyish for many people I think.
Cora - I can definitely see this coming back.
Cornelia (nn
Nell?) - The corn part isn't very attractive, and I think many will think it sounds long and snobby.
Glynis - Possibly.
Edith - Already getting fairly popular amongst the Daily Telegraph circuit.
Edwina - I'm afraid I can't drum up any enthusiasm for this. I went to school with an
Edwina and I don't remember her ever being teased about it but I did always wonder why her parents gave her such a hideous name.
Elsa - I think this and
Elsie will come back soon.
Enid - I'd love to see this come back but most people seem to think it's ugly. :(
Eugenia - I think it's got a posh/snobby association in the UK because of
Princess Eugenie, so probably not.
Frederica / Fredricka - I don't think so, but
Frederick is starting to come back so I could be wrong.
Hester - I think
Esther is much more likely.
Imelda - Maybe.
Jean - I think this is seen as very plain still.
Joan - Ditto.
Muriel - Still old lady tainted I think.
Myra - Definitely not in the UK because of
Myra Hindley. It won't ever come back here. I think it's got a good chance in the US though because it sounds similar to Mia/Maia.
Olympia - I think this sounds too snobby to others but I like it.
Regina - I think this could come back.
Renata - Too unusual for the UK, I think it's possible in the US.
Sibyl - I don't think this will.
Ursula - This definitely won't for a long time because of The Little Mermaid.
Wilhelmina ("willa + mina") - I adore this and would love to see it come back. Probably too long for the general population though.
Winifred - I know a
Winifred in her 40s who goes by
Winnie because she hates it. I love this too, but sadly I don't think it will come back for a while.
