Re: Forgotten friends

Agatha- I can see this catching on. I adore the nn Aggie so I can imagine other people liking it, especially since I see it in a similar way to Maddie or Addy. Ailsa- I don't see this taking off in Australia due to the fact that this was the name of the old biddy in the soap Home and Away for years. That will be a memory in too many people's minds. I can't imagine it on anyone but an old lady. Not ready for a revival.Bess- Love this and I think it is definitely ready for a revival. It makes a great nn for ElisabethBlanche - I personally don't like this because to me you "blanche the vegetables". To me, I don't want to see it revived.Cora- I like this name a lot. If my boyfriend Ben gets his way, one day it will be a definite possibility for one of our daughters because he adores it. I think there is a definite possibility of a comeback but I believe it will need to be helped along by a TV character with the name.Cornelia - I despise this name, and I can imagine a lot of other people with the same opinion. It is an ugly sound. I don't think the name will be helped in Australia by the fact that the Weakest Link host here was Cornelia Frances (who is also an actor), who is always a cold and heartless character in everything.Glynis- I still know elderly people with this name, so it doesn't sound as fresh as some of the others do to me. I don't think it is quite ready for a comeback.Edith- I love the nn Edie, and Edith is okay but I can imagined being laughed if I ever suggested it. I know that in Australia, Edwina is in something of a comeback and has been for a few years with most little Edwina's being nned EdieEdwina- haha I didn't see Edwina below Edith! See above. Already a seen name among little girls in Australia.Elsa- I think this and Elsie are ready for a comeback. Elsa fits into the quirky-cute names along with Ruby and Aggie to me.Enid- I personally don't see the appeal in it at all, and the harsh sound of the 'nid will probably hinder a comeback seing as most names that have come back have a soft cutesy sound or a soft nnEugenia- Definitely ready IMO. So pretty and regal and Princess Eugenie probably doesn't hurt a revivalFrederica / Fredricka- I don't think its ready for a comeback. Fredrick isn't ready for boys, and I think a boys revival will come before the girlsHester- I think Esther will comeback first, simply because it is a more known name. People will have to rediscover Hester through something.Imelda- I know a couple of Imeldas between the ages of 18 and 4 so I think it definitely has the potential of a comeback. It combines lots of popular sounds so it is definitely possible.Jean- still very prominent around elderly women, so still considered an 'old' nameJoan- I have a beautiful little 2 year old 'niece' (my cousin's daughter) named Joan Elizabeth "Joanie". She is absolutely gorgeous and so I really like the name. But by people's reactions when I told them her name, it is definitely not ready for a comeback.Muriel- No way. It is still considered a ghastly old fashioned name.Myra- With the resurgence of Maia, Mya etc, Myra is definitely a possibility. I really quite like itOlympia- the connotation with the Olympics might be a turn offRegina- It is still very much and old lady/middle aged lady name. I don't think it will be ready for a wide spread comeback for awhileRenata- Definitely ready. I have always loved this name and for some it might be seen as a more unusual twist on ReneeSibyl- I don't think it is quite readyUrsula- I like Ursula a lot, but I don't think it will be having a comeback with the next generation and current generation having children (my generation) because of the witch in The Little Mermaid.Wilhelmina- this is used as a mn a lot in my family because it is a family name and judging by people's reactions when they hear that her mn is Wilhelmina, it is not ready.Winifred- ditto Wilhelmina. I have little cousins named Susannah Winifred (Joanie's sister) and Arabella Winifred and neither have been well received.
