A few weeks before their scheduled return to the US, Sunny found out she was expecting a baby! Hazel Kijani Freeman was born six months after their return. The Freeman's celebrated a number of important events this year--Drew's fortieth birthday, Drew and Sunny's fifteenth wedding anniversary, Jata and Abbos' eighteenth birthdays, and an expensive hospital stay for Jem when he was involved in a car accident. Dabim was with him and had some injuries, but none as severe are Jem.
--Drew is set to retire at the end of next month, and he is planning on pursuing a second career as a defense contractor. Sunny has continued operating her small business and sells jewelry for kids, women, and (most recently), men. She has done all this while helping all the kids adjust to life with them.
--Jata and Abbo are now eighteen. They are seniors in high school this year and aren't yet sure what they're doing after graduation yet. Jata would like to study medicine; while Abbo is drawn to international business.
--Dabim and Jem are sixteen. They spend most of their time with Jata and Abbo and are having a hard time adjusting to life in America. They've only been in the States for two years, and Sunny thinks that they'll adjust with a little more time. Dabim and Jem were involved in a car accident riding home from school with some friends. Dabim's injuries were minor; however, Jem had multiple broken bones and required a six week hospital stay. He is healing nicely, though, and Rajib has especially enjoyed spending extra time with his big brother.

Before he went on his volunteer trip, Drew and Sunny began applying for international adoption. This year, they were placed with four year old twins from India, Rajib and Ankita. Neither one knows English; however, they are quickly beginning to fit in with the others. Jata and Abbo have taken Rajib under their wing and are teaching him all the ins and outs of American life. Hazel is spending lots of time with Kita, and the girls have bonded over a shared love of horses.

Drew and Sunny continued hoping to adopt a child from Africa--where Jata and Abbo are from. Dabim and Jem are fourteen year old twins from Ethiopia. The boys grew up in an Ethiopian orphanage and have bonded to Jata and Abbo almost immediately.

The Freeman's celebrated a number of important events this year--Drew's fortieth birthday, Drew and Sunny's fifteenth wedding anniversary, Jata and Abbos' eighteenth birthdays, and an expensive hospital stay for Jem when he was involved in a car accident. Dabim was with him and had some injuries, but none as severe are Jem.
--Drew is set to retire at the end of next month, and he is planning on pursuing a second career as a defense contractor. Sunny has continued operating her small business and sells jewelry for kids, women, and (most recently), men. She has done all this while helping all the kids adjust to life with them.
--Jata and Abbo are now eighteen. They are seniors in high school this year and aren't yet sure what they're doing after graduation yet. Jata would like to study medicine; while Abbo is drawn to international business.
--Dabim and Jem are sixteen. They spend most of their time with Jata and Abbo and are having a hard time adjusting to life in America. They've only been in the States for two years, and Sunny thinks that they'll adjust with a little more time. Dabim and Jem were involved in a car accident riding home from school with some friends. Dabim's injuries were minor; however, Jem had multiple broken bones and required a six week hospital stay. He is healing nicely, though, and Rajib has especially enjoyed spending extra time with his big brother.
--Hazel is thirteen. She loves horses and dogs and is especially fond of Norry.
--Lily is eleven. She also loves horses, but is a very independent spirit. She gets into a lot of trouble because of her fiery nature.
--Rajib and Kita are eight. They are very happy children who love spending time with their older siblings.
