Meaning & History
Medieval Dutch spelling of Ieronimus. It is one of several spellings, for there was no fixed writing standard in the medieval period.A famous bearer of this name was the Dutch painter Jheronimus Bosch (c. 1450-1516), who is known in the anglophone world as Hieronymus Bosch. Most likely it is due to his fame and influence that the name is still used in the Netherlands today, albeit extremely rarely.
