Meaning & History

Short form of Gregoor and Gregorius (see Gregory).

This name is not to be confused with the Dutch adjective goor meaning "dirty, filthy, disgusting".

The well-known Dutch singer Gordon Heuckeroth (b. 1968) is often referred to as Goor, even though the name is not traditionally a short form of Gordon. The use of this nickname only began in his time with the Dutch supergroup De Toppers, of which he was a member from 2005 until 2011. He has since teamed up occasionally with his former band mate Gerard "Geer" Joling (b. 1960), performing as a musical duo under the name Geer & Goor. They have also made a few television programmes under that name.
