A fictional bearer of this name is Dolly from the mobile game Path To Nowhere, a young baseball enthusiast and playable character. She’s spunky, hates being underestimated, but friendly, and her powers give her a ‘berserk mode’. She’s very tough, cool, and tomboyish.
This lady in my town who is an instagram “influencer” named her baby Dolly. You can tell she thinks of her child as just that— a doll for her to dress up and control.

I've always thought this name is childish too. It might be fine to use on a mythical creature in a novel, but sounds weird on a real person. A similar-looking name, Molly, is much better.
It’s cute! It’s old-fashioned in a very good way. It reminds me of some people like the 4th President’s wife (but her name had an “e” in it). Her name was Dolley Madison.
I always get that I don't look like a Dolly... So I ask what does a Dolly look like...and the answer is me!...only because my name is Dolly...I like my name more now than when I was younger... And what's crazy is my daughter's name is Joelene...and it wasn't done on purpose...LOL!
I'm thinking of naming a daughter Dolly after my favorite band, the Goo Goo Dolls. I like Dolly because it's the biggest derivative from the band into a name that I can think of. I really want to have some kind of tribute to the band, I think that's an interesting namesake.

Darya "Dolly" Schterbatskya was a character in Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina". I think this name is a bad name, but a cute nickname that should stop being used once the child reaches age 8 or so.
