Meaning & History
Dutch form of Boso. This given name is extremely rare in the Netherlands nowadays and is more commonly found as a patronymic surname. In Dutch literature, Boes is the name of the main character of the Dutch comic strip Boes, which became so popular that it was made into an animated television series (with the same title) in the late 1980s. The television series is known as Ox Tales in the Anglosphere. With that said, it should be noted that since Boes is an ox, his name might possibly be a play on boe, which is the Dutch equivalent of moo, the characteristic sound that bulls and cows make. Alternatively, it is also possible that his creators were inspired by the ancient Greek word βοῦς (bous) meaning "bull, ox", which is pronounced the same as Boes.
