Meaning & History
From Classical Persian آرزومند (ārzumand) meaning "wishful", from آرزو (ārzu) "wish" (compare modern Persian Arezou) and the possessive suffix ـمند (-mand). A famous bearer was Arjumand Banu Begum (1593-1631), better known by her title Mumtaz Mahal, the chief consort of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for whom he built the Taj Mahal.
