I'm 46. I love so many types of names that it's hard to list my top names. But they are all mostly classic. Sampling: Niamh, Aoife, Ursula, Iphigenia, Rosamund, Peter, Desmond, Malachy, Cornelius, Rex.

I'm not here to name future children. I'm here to have fun with names so I tend to draw outside of the lines a lot.

I'm 27. I think you might be right in thinking there is a correlation between more mature people liking more old-fashioned names. Not that liking "modern" names is "immature", but that just seems to be a natural pattern I notice as well. Older parents seem to favour more traditional names. I now love the names I used to hate when I was a teenager.

However it seems to start going the other way as well the older you get ...I notice a lot of "grandparent-age" people really dislike old fashioned names and find them ugly. I guess because there is not a lot of charm in those names for them since they grew up with them! I'm sure I'll wrinkle my nose at my kids thinking Justin and Kimberly are "refreshing" ;)

- Germanic/Norse names
- Welsh/Irish names
- Unusual, pretty names that aren't too weird-sounding (i.e. Reiko, Rayen, Ayelet)

I think my taste in names has varied over the years. I am more appreciative of older names now then I use to be. I find certain older names to be unique because they are no longer used often. Trendy, modern, popular sometimes feel worn and used out to me. There are just too many of them. I can see that in 10/15 years times how dated they will be, because of the trendy names I grew up with.

Names that I have liked (and still like) when I was younger in the 90's feel a little dated now. They were pretty unique sounding when I liked them though. I don't think I would ever consider using some of them, but here are my favorites from back then:

I'm 39 and my taste used to be more similar to other posters here than it is now. After I started looking up names online and getting on message boards, or maybe it was getting pregnant that did it - my taste changed a little. It got easier to see that names that intrigued me, were not necessarily the names I'd be comfortable using for my own kids. After I had children my taste changed a little again. I think in part it is a reaction against popularity, also what Llewella said...in a community about the etymology and history of names a name like Kaylee with a short history and unclear etymology is seen as having less significance. They also tend to sound dated more than classic names. Maybe in another 50 years people will start to appreciate them!
I'm 17. But my taste has not changed very much, maybe just got a little more diverse when I discover new names. I still love my favourites from years ago, Safiya and Valentina.

I don't think liking old-school, classic names has to do with age, it's just a difference of taste. On this site, you won't find many fans of the more modern, trendy names, but that doesn't mean they are terrible, or that no one likes them at all. The thing is, we like discussing names that don't get a lot of love in real life.

For boys most of the names have some sort of significance to me, quite a few of the girls names do too. I like more classic names but I also have a soft spot of feminine, unusul names and girls names from the 90s. I also like a lot of trendy boy names but they are not my favorite.

I'm 25. The reason most people here don't like modern names is because we're interested in the origin and history of names, and modern names often have none or hardly any of that. Also I think we often tend to look for more uncommon names that interest us.
