I am born! I am the second daughter of five children born to Ben and Dove Ashland. I have the straight bright red hair that my older siblings have, and big hazel eyes. My older sister, Violet, is so excited to meet me, because she has always wanted a sister (and got two other brothers instead). Nick and Cohen weren't thrilled by my arrival, but I don't cry too much, so they're getting to like me. Slate is just fourteen months older than me. He started walking around the time I was born, but he doesn't really understand that I'm his sister yet.

I was diagnosed with a strawberry allergy this year--it was severe enough that we spent an evening in the ER, and Mom swore never to buy strawberries again. Unfortunately, they're one of Violet's favorite foods, so we'll see how long that lasts. Apparently I can touch strawberries, but can't eat them.

We went to a big family reunion this year! Every five years, Mom's family holds a huge family get together at one of the state parks and rents out an entire campground. This is the first time Slate and I have been to a family reunion. Cohen just started first grade, and he doesn't remember the last one either--but Nick and Violet remember the first one. We have two tents this year--Dad, Nick, and Cohen are in one tent while Mom, Violet, Slate, and I are in the other one. We had a great time camping, fishing, and toasting marshmallows (well, I didn't toast any, but Violet made me one).

We moved to a new place this year. Dad got a promotion and started working in a city two hours from our house! So, Mom said we had to move. I thought it was a great adventure--so did Slate. The older kids weren't happy though, because they were settled in at school and had lots of friends there. We are making new friends--there's another big family who lives right next door. Slate and I counted and, between the Robinsons and the Ashlands, there are fifteen kids! We have lots of fun together.

I started Kindergarten this year. I've always been a little clumsy, but I guess my teacher thought something was really wrong with me, because she recommended that Mom take me to the doctor. After lots of tests (which were more like playing games), the doctors say I have a mild case of cerebral palsy. It means I have some trouble with my coordination and my running looks a little different than the other kids, but otherwise I do just fine.

I'm in first grade now! We started doing more reading this year, which is really hard for me to do. It made me feel sad to watch the other kids reading so well, when I could barely figure out where one word ended and the next one began. Mom asked Violet to help me, but she wasn't very patient with me. Mom got a tutor for me, but it was really Slate who helped me actually figure out how to read. I'm doing better, but it still isn't easy for me.

I turned seven this year. I started playing soccer this year, and I absolutely love it! I usually play defense. My cerebral palsy means that I do look kind of strange while I'm running on the field, but it hasn't slowed me down at all. Slate is my biggest cheerleader--and my best friend. We do almost everything together, though Daniel likes to tag along sometimes too.

We went on vacation this year--Dad decided it was time to take us to see the Grand Canyon. He went when he was fifteen and loved it. It was so big! I was afraid I was going to fall over the edge, but Slate was sure we would be safe. Mom made Daniel wear a leash so he didn't fall in, but she trusted Slate and I. Nick and Violet didn't like it too much--Nick said it was just a big hole in the ground and that he wanted to play his video games, and Violet complained that it was too hot, and she couldn't go out with her boyfriend while we were on vacation. Cohen liked it, I think, except that he got really sunburnt one day because he didn't listen when Mom said to put on sunscreen.

Even though I've been playing soccer for the past few years and loving it, I've also found that I really love helping my Mom in the garden. Actually, I like anything outside. Mom has been teaching me about the different plants and how things grow.
Nick graduated from high school this year--he is going away to college to study engineering. He wants to build and design stuff. I think its boring, but he says he really likes it. I don't like it that he is going away, but Mom and Dad say he is becoming a grown up and will move out of the house and have his own family someday.

I turned ten this year! It was a big deal, and we always have a big celebration when somebody in the family turns ten. We had a giant birthday party with almost fifty people! In school this year, we started learning about biology, which I was really good at. Then we started learning about chemistry, which I was really bad at. I almost failed that module, but Slate helped me, since he had done those lessons the year before. I still don't like chemistry, but after that we studied botany, which I loved, especially because I love gardening!
