This time for the Find a Grave Create a Family, the main family hails from Russia. They will use different names and patronymics.

A patronym is the name that derives from the father. The family below is Russian, and it’s common where they’re from. All the children get a patronymic as their middle names, and it’s based on whatever the father’s name is, often ending in ovich or evich if it’s a son, and ovna or evna if it’s a daughter.

So for example, if you name the father (first DH) Vladimir, the sons will have the patronym Vladimirovich, while the daughters will have Vladimirovna. If you choose to name the father Pavel, however, the sons will have Pavlovich while the daughters will have Pavlova. You may have to google some patronymics to be sure you got it right.

There must also be feminine forms of the surname, as Russians do feminized versions of surnames. So if you pick Orlov for the family name, the girls will be known as Orlova.
