"Damian"...Another name for satan?
I heard several times from different people that the name Damian is another name for satan, or is demonic. Does anybody know the validity of this?
P.S. -
A friend said there was a movie with someone in it who's name was Damian and he was possessed or something...This may be where they got the idea, if indeed that movie does exist...What do you think?

DAMIOS is who subject or who subdue
I'm not sure whether this has anything to do with your discussion, but this is what I found:
Some people seem to associate DAMON with the Greek word "daimon" ("devine being, fate") which on the threshold to modern times was identified with the Jewish-Christian idea of Satan. I found this in Knaurs Buch der Vornamen. Most others though (like this site) give a different explanation of the name.

Daemon means devil, which is close to Damian. I've never seen the Omen, and think that Damian is a perfectly Ok name. :) My aunt's nephew is named Damian. Plus, I've always heard that Satan's name is Lucifer.
In some places, the stigma may be fading, but whenever I hear of a child called Damien, I can't help but wonder whether he'll be born with a full head of black, and start pushing his mother out of windows as soon as he's old enough to ride a trike.
I don't think there's much of a stigma . . .
. . . considering that Damian was 299th most popular for boys in the 70s, 331st in the 80s and was 164th last year, in America. Damon, which looks even more like 'demon', was only a little way behind it, and was in fact more popular in the 70s and entered the top 1000 as far back as the 1920s (Damian entered in the 1940s).

For some reason, I hear that name and think Satan, and I don't know why. It's not a bad name; I think it may be close to "demon," but not that close. Hmm...
Hey, I thought that too! Lots of people say it's related to the devil. Well, according to this, it's completely the opposite:
DAMIAN
Gender: Male
Meaning: Sweet and harmless
Origin: Greek

That was part of the appeal of the name
The child in the movie "The Omen" did appear sweet and harmless. Despite the true meaning, however, the baby in the film was pure evil, and the association stuck. Damian was and is a rather unused name, and "The Omen" is a very famous horror film, so many people (myself incuded) wouldn't dream of using the name because of the character in the movie.
It really is just a name, though. But a name that now carries a heavy burden of bad association.

Damian is NOT Australian . . .
. . . take it from an Australian! It's Greek in origin. Click on the Damian link for details.

Uh, that's a typo. It should be m, not f.
Perhaps Mike should change that to "m/f".

Don't you get he is joking? By the way... Beyond movies... Have you read "Demian" by Herman Hesse? That's another source from which to reinterpret Demian and Damian and etc. Personally I would combine etymologies and understand those names as "tamed distribuiter" or "distribiuting tamer" (Sorry for missepllings/typos, I'm in a hurry)... Of course whether the name brings evil or not with it... I do understand that it was just another of christianity's insults to non-christian beliefs (like in "beel zebub") for a "daimon" was neither, nor good nor evil, the "eudemon" was good the "cacodemon" was evil ("caco" like in "cacophony" "horrible strong sound" means "evil" and/or "bad"; "eu" like in "eucharyst", "eucharyot", "evander" and "evangelium" means "good"), "daimons" were just a different race, above humankind, below gods and demigods, slightly above, slightly below and/or in tie with human spirits... Like with humans they could be evil or good or neither... Furthermore... Even gods where subject to the same "freedom of alignment"...
