I'm writing a graphic novel taking place in the Great Depression era Brooklyn. One of the main characters is a shoddy, crafty Sicilian-Hungarian named Riley Lovász ([pronounced something like "LUH-vahs"] The surname wasn't ever changed because his dad was in the country illegally). I'd refer to him mostly by his surname but the problem is that it's impossible to read if you're not familiar with Hungarian pronunciations.

Soooo I was wondering if anyone had ideas for nicknames (out of the surname, of course). That'd be a huge help!
