Middle names for Marie (and one other thought)
I love Marie as a first name and I don't know why. My hypothesis as to why I've grown so attached: it's sweet and snappy, old and underused in the first name spot, and there's no end to the songs I could sing her.The problem with Marie is that I have yet to find something that feels right with it. Marie Honorah or Marie Claudette would honour family and all that jazz, but they lack a certain pizzazz. I don't want to overwhelm the name, but I want to find some combos that're spectacularly...odd, perhaps, or just striking in a not-overly-high-class and not-typical kind of way, if you know what I mean. Marie Ophelie, for example, isn't what I want--nothing too hoity-toity. And Marie Shaelan doesn't cut it either; it needs to be something with snap. What I've come up with thus far:Marie Desdemona
Marie Karana
Marie Margalo
Marie Orphea (or-FAY-ah)
Marie Romelza
Marie ZuleikaI don't think I've managed to describe what I want well enough. It's one of those cases in which the right combo is gonna be like pornography: I'll know it when I see it. :D Any ideas? Thoughts on what I've got?Oh, yeah, and this: Winslow Marcellus. Too wussy? Too Wynton Marsalis? I've gotta know.Array (rather liking Marie Karana)

Marie is a bit refreshing to see as a first name : )Marie Claudette is nice actually. And I like Marie Karana, but it doesn't flow quite right.Suggestions:
Marie Cinda
Marie Dove
Marie Evening
Marie June
Marie Juniper
Marie Lucinda
Marie Luna
Marie Lune
Marie Opal
Marie Solveig
Marie Thursday
Marie True
Marie Wren
Marie Zelda
Winslow Marcellus is kind of nice, although really nms. I wouldn't say too wussy though, and general population probably won't make an association to Wynton Marsalis, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Since you like Marie Karana, maybe you'll like Marie Karenina? I'm really like the alliteration & rhythm of Marie Margalo, too. :o)Let's see:Marie Stardust :o)
Marie Kitten (I was really thinking Marie Kitty, but it just didn't sound right)
Marie Bliss
Marie Aster / Astrud / Astrophel
Marie Denim (don't ask me why; I'm really not trying to be flippant. I guess it's the CTP, b/c I was thinking Jean & that you couldn't use it, and then maybe Marie Blue & then blue jeans = denim came to mind...)
Marie Saffronia (just had to suggest it again, lol)
Marie Vesper (a different take on Evening)
Marie Hazelen (the prn you like: hayz-ELL-en)
Marie Vaughan (after Sarah Vaughan and of course, Ralph Vaughan Williams - I'm really liking the flow of this one)
Marie Patrice (like the sing-songiness of this, too: mah-REE pah-TREECE)
Marie Josephine (Josephine Baker)
Marie Ida
Marie Charmian (maybe too hoity-toity for your taste?)
Marie Charmaine (ditto, I like Charmaine a lot)
Marie Merritt
Marie Blanche

Marie Karenina is really pretty--but I couldn't possibly take it as a combo until I finally read Anna Karenina. I'd feel like an imposter up until that point, hehe.Marie Stardust~ Very snazzy. :)
Marie Kitten~ I'm not sure how I feel about Kitten as a name (one I'll have to give consideration), but it reminds me of one that I loved back in elementary school, Sanura. It was listed in one of my parents' baby name books as being Swahili for "kitten," and cats have always been my favourite animal, so I latched on to it immediately. Marie Sanura? :D
Marie Bliss~ Problem with Bliss is that I equate it more with Ecstasy and Orgasm than with, say, Happy or Blythe. :(
Marie Aster / Astrud / Astrophel~ Hmm...Maybe Marie Astrid? Aster sounds strange when I say it, and Astrophel has sounds like the picture of masculinity to me.
Marie Denim~ I'd be lying if I said I didn't like how this sounded. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to use Denim, but Marie Denim has a very cool sound.
Marie Saffronia~ I really like this.
Marie Vesper~ I used to call my youngest sister, among other things, Vesper, actually! So it's almost like a family name, lol.
Marie Hazelen~ I'd have to spell it Marie Hazellen, I think. :D I really like the sound.
Marie Vaughan~ Oh. Just...oh. I like it.
Marie Patrice~ I'm not sure how I feel about Patrice. It's a bit...dunno what.

I'm so glad I tickled your fancy! :oDMy favorite combos for you (!) are:
Marie Stardust (I think it suits your bohemian personality)
Marie Denim (it's quirky...and fabulous. What's more to say?)
Marie Saffronia (sounds almost elegant, but then it makes you go, "Huh?" I love that!)
Marie Vesper (it's practically a *family* name. Oh, you MUST use it!)
Marie Hazellen (dusty-musty qualities...excellent potential)
Marie Vaughan (I like this one for me, too!)
Marie Blanche (ditto...I like Blanche as well...and Bianca and Blanca...)
Marie Valaida (it's got a homespun, functional folk-art feel to it...as you mentioned) Oh, and here's all I know about Valaida (the name & the person): http://www.jazzhot.bigstep.com/generic13.html
Marie Dolores (ditto w/Hazellen)
You mean *looks left, then right, leans forward, and lowers voice to a whisper* you don't already have Word files for each name? *clears throat and resumes normal speaking volume* Oh, uh, neither do I. Wouldn't even consider it... :oDD

Marie Demetriaif a little rhythm floats your boat.I don't see why Marie Claudette doesn't work for you, I think it's quite "snappy." Marie Karana isn't working for me - it's .. mar REEK arana, sorta. Not flexy enough. Maybe I'm listening too hard. It looks flash, at least.Winslow Marcellus: has a sort of glum air about it, sorry.- mirfak

I'm not a fan of Marie. I find it a little boring for both first or middle name. Although, I have to admit that is much nicer that plain old Mary. Marie Zuleika is the best. It's definitley got "pizzazz".

Marie Kazimira
Marie Lorienne
Marie Odelia
Marie Dariana
Marie CeriseI like Marcellus, but not Winslow. It sounds like the name of a cartoon character, not a person. Perhaps it is?PP's in Profile

Marie Desdemona - really like this, has a nice kind of 'bounce' to it, if that makes sense.
Marie Karana - not a fan, the names don't really flow together IMO
Marie Margalo - nice, I like the alliteration
Marie Orphea (or-FAY-ah) - oooh, I like this. I'd never heard of Orphea before, but I'm a fan.
Marie Romelza - again, the names just don't really fit together to me.
Marie Zuleika - nice enough - but I think you could do better.I'm not sure if I can suggest better, but I'll give it a go:
Marie Demelza
Marie Aurelia
Marie Marcella (seen as you like Marcellus)
Marie Martina
Marie Octavia
Marie Olympia
Marie Indigo
Marie Tatiana
Marie Carmen
Marie Francesca
Marie Georgette
Marie Euphemia
Marie Tisiphone
Marie Persephone
Marie Oleander
Marie Virginia
Marie Inez
Marie BernadettePersonal favourites from these combos: Marie Demelza, Marie Martina and Marie Olympia. Oh, and Marie Tisiphone has a real ring to it too :-)
