These just g to show how the way we pronounce a name sometimes makes all the difference! Tell me what you think of these names and how you pronounce them.
1. I got 'Murder on the Orient Express' read on CD for
Christmas (love audio books and
Agatha Christie) and the man reading the book pronounced
Elena and
Helena like ah-lay-nah and hah-lay-nah which I really love. So I was looking at my favorites list (I have
Elena &
Lena on there) and was thinking how much prettier
Beatrice Elena sounds when
Elena is pronounced as above. Try it!
Then I thought if
Elena is pronounced ah-lay-nah why can't
Lena be pronounced lay-nah? If it is then
Lena Viola sounds much more elegant. I've been pronouncing these names like eh-lee-nah, heh-lee-nah, and lee-nah.
2. Also there was a lady name
Mary Hermione, now I've always seen this name as rather ugly I suppose because I've been pronouncing it her-moy-nee but the man who read the book pronounced it her-my-ah-nee and I just thought it was so pretty!
3. Then on a TV show I saw,
Hermione Baddley played a crazy old lady named
Kezia. Now I've seen
Keziah before and always pronounced it ke-zeye-uh and I thought is was okay, but they pronounced it kee-zee-ah which I thought was really nice!
