I've always pronounced Elena and Helena with the lay pronounciation. As for Lena I tend to pronounce it lee-nah because of a seagull.

There is a joke we have between my friends with Lena the seagull and her always watching eye. One of my friends always gets creeped out with the "Lena is watching you" so we tend to say it to only her to freak her out!
