[Opinions] Re: Charlie for a girl
Charlie is pretty much exclusively a girl's name where I live, and it's ridiculously popular, too. Girls my age tend to be named Charlotte, nn Charlie, but in the last few years, it seems to have become more popular as a name in its own right, or hyphenated together with another name, such as Charlie-Jay, Charlie-Rose or Charlie-Ellen (these are all actual little girls I've come across).
My grandad (named Charlie) was just recently commenting that you don't see many babies with 'proper' (by which he meant traditional) names like Charlie anymore, to which my mum (who is a primary school teacher) replied, "that's not true, I've had a little girl named Charlie in every class I've ever taught!" Grandad looked vaguely horrified to discover that his name is now being given to girls rather than boys.
