[Opinions] Charlie for a girl
In the past month, I have heard the name Charlie on girls. Once, I heard it on a newborn. The second time I heard it was today on a 4-year old girl. I was curious. I asked the mom if Charlie was her birth name. The Mom said her full name was Charolette. I didn't know that Charlie was a nn for Charolette. I wonder if this will become popular with the release of "Charolette's Web" in the states. Personally, I don't know anyone named Charolette. I think it is a pretty name.

I once met a woman named Charlie (she is probably 25-26 now) and that was her birth name, not a nickname for anything. I think it's cute, but don't know if it really ages very well.
Charlie is pretty much exclusively a girl's name where I live, and it's ridiculously popular, too. Girls my age tend to be named Charlotte, nn Charlie, but in the last few years, it seems to have become more popular as a name in its own right, or hyphenated together with another name, such as Charlie-Jay, Charlie-Rose or Charlie-Ellen (these are all actual little girls I've come across).
My grandad (named Charlie) was just recently commenting that you don't see many babies with 'proper' (by which he meant traditional) names like Charlie anymore, to which my mum (who is a primary school teacher) replied, "that's not true, I've had a little girl named Charlie in every class I've ever taught!" Grandad looked vaguely horrified to discover that his name is now being given to girls rather than boys.

very interesting!! Thanks for the response!
I have never met a 'Charolette' either, but I know a couple 'Charlotte's.
I know a Charlotte who goes by Chalee, this spelling. It totally suits her, she's a BIG tomboy. I think the spelling Chalee makes it look much more feminine.
First off, I think you made a mistake in accidently spelling it Charolette, i think you meant Charlotte. :). Unless that is how the girl spelled it. But it's also spelled Charlotte's Web.
Second I prefer it only as a nn for Charlotte.
Charlotte will be my future daugther's name who is actually named after the spider in Charlotte's Web, I've picked her name out for about 17 years. I only knew one Charlotte in my life so far. It's not popular where I live, and I don't think it will get that popular even fro mthe movie.

thanks for your response. Believe it or not, the girl's name was "Charolette." I was surprised too.
I did spell Charlotte's Web incorrectly though. Thanks for the correction. I was in a hurry. Sorry about that.
I do love the name Charlotte though.

My friend's mom is named Charlie.
I think Charlotte is so much nicer.

You mean Charlotte? I personally haven't seen Charolette before. I really don't care for this spelling/variation of Charlotte. I think that it should be left as Charlotte.
A girl named Charlie might dislike having a typically masculine first name, so I think that it's best to use a feminine name (Charlotte, Charla, etc.) that allows her to be called Charlie. If she decides that she doesn't want to be called Charlie, she can always go back to her full name whether it be Charlotte or something else.
BTW Charlotte is nms (I think of the word "harlot"), but I prefer it to just Charlie for a girl.
Edited to add more.

I've never seen it spelled Charolette; I prefer the original spelling Charlotte.
It's been gaining in popularity for a while, so I don't know how much of a difference the movie will make. I think it's pretty, and I liked it for a while. Then it became a revival name (as I call the older style names that are once again popular, e.g., Emma, Emily, Olivia, Ava, Matilda, etc.), and that killed it for me.
