I've always loved the name Adelaide but I'm digging Ada lately as either a nickname for Adelaide or as a standalone name. However, I'm concerned it would just be constantly confused with Ava.
I recently found out my great-great-grandmother's middle name was Ada (Catherine Ada) and while it would not be in honor of her, I was struck by how it livened up the name Catherine. Catherine/Katherine is a truly tired name in my family. I have 5 Aunts by birth or marriage, sister, sister-in-law or first-cousins of my father (who are considered Aunties to me in how my family works and as close as my Dad's sisters and sisters-in-law to me) named Catherine/Kathryn/Katherine/Catherine/Catherine. Also, a first-cousin named Katherine and a child of one of my father's cousins named Catherine "Kate" (considered a "cousin" in family parlance), and it's well represented in the family tree for generations. I also graduated Catholic high school in a class of about 150, males and females, and there were 7 Katherines (3 went by Katherine, the others were Kate or Katie). Therefore, super boring to me but I thought Ada spiced it up and that was a surprise to me.
So questions:
- WDYT of Ada?
- Do you prefer Adelaide with Ada as an occasional nickname or Ada as a standalone name?
- Do you think Ada would always get confused with Ava, especially on a child born in the next 5-7 years? And do you think that would be a problem? By 'problem', I mean burdensome to constantly correct or any other perceived problem you might think of.
- What do you think of Adelaide Mary Jann or Adelaide Jann Mary, with both Jann and Mary being honoring? Which one do you prefer?
- WDYT of Adelaide Claire Annette or Adelaide Annette Claire? Annette and Claire are also honoring. Which do you prefer?
Thanks!
