What do you think of masculine nicknames on girls? Not full names, just abbreviations.
I thought of this because I recently became friends with two girls named
Ron and
Ben. I thought they were guys before I met them and was quite surprised. Turned out their full names are
Rona and Bénédict. Bénédict is from French Canada, I was surprised it was spelled that way because the feminine form is actually Bénédicte and her parents are French, but I guess they liked the way it looked (clickable:
Benedict,
Benedicte).
Rona is from Canada, but not the French part.
I used to dislike those nicknames but they are so nice on them. They're are actually really girly and not tomboy-ish at all, and it was kind of weird but also nice to see them on a girl, especially
Ron which is dated as a boys name but on her it seems nice. She was also called
Roni a bit. I just found out that
Ron is unisex in
Israel. I knew
Roni was but not
Ron. Kind of nice.
Other examples: On a Disney show my cousin watches there's a girl named
Teddy and one named
Charlie.
It made those names grow on me, I think
Veronica,
Rona "
Ron" is cool and so are
Benedicte "
Ben",
Theodora "
Teddy",
Charlotte "
Charlie". I just prefer a really feminine full form they can fall back on.
WDYT?
