I really like the name
Barnabas. I was in quite the
Barnaby phase for a long time, but I think
Barnabas is also excellent. It's a little bit fustier, a bit more serious, less sleek than
Barnaby. I agree on its down-to-earth nature (the barn beginning no doubt indeed). It makes me think of a rotund monk in worn woolen robes.
As for a non-Barney nickname, hmm, that's a tough one. Nab maybe?

Barnabas Paul came to me right away, that's a bit conservative but in a nice way. I really want to pair it with something short yet serious.
