[Opinions] Barnabas
Barnabas was mentioned in church on Sunday, and since then I've been thinking about that name. I think it feels very kind and down-to-earth--probably because it begins with barn--but it has an intelligence and creativity too. Like maybe he works on a farm but is always pausing to write bits of nature poetry. Lovely image to me, and I think I just talked myself into liking it. :)What do you think of it? Combo ideas? Also, can you think of any nicknames besides Barney? I really don't like that one.

I do really like this name, but prefer Barnaby. The only other nn I could think of is Barn, but that seems a little strange!

Sorry, but I can't take it seriously. It sounds just so...off. Like a joke name almost.

I like it, although I think I like Barnaby better, possibly because I know one. He gets shortened to Barnes. I wonder if you could get away with Abe?Barnabas Hamish
Barnabas Henry
Barnabas Digory
Barnabas Bysshe
Barnabas Madoc
Barnabas Jonah
Barnabas Noel
Barnabas Alexander
Barnabas AulayETA to add Barnabas Mountain! because I just found it in a list of real Barnabases born here, and it is... add-worthy :)

Sounds like most like Barnaby better. I think it's fun, but it feels silly to me. I picture a goofy guy in one of those rainbow helicopter hats. :)Barnabas Hamish! Love it.
Also like Barnabas Henry, Barnabas Bysshe (ooh, never seen that one before), Barnabas Noel, and Barnabas Auley.Wow, Barnabas Mountain is something. Nice. :)

Barnabas is awesome. Man would I love to meet a little Barnabas. But you are very right that Barney just won't do.
Nab?
Nabby?
Arnie?
BB - for the two Bs in the name?
Bear?
I think Nab could be cute.

I do think Nab is good. I don't think I could do Nabby, even though this is all totally hypothetical. Nabby was a nn for Abigail, so I think it feels more feminine.

I like Barnabas, but I like Barnaby even more.As far as nicknames go, I don't like Barney either. I think if it were my son, I'd just call him B for short. You could also go with Bas, or maybe Arby or Abby (I like Abby on a guy,) but those are stretches.

AbbyGood suggestion! I love Abby on a guy, too. High five, Abby buddy! :)

I like these ones:
Barnabas Anselm - ooh, monk-ly
Barnabas Edward
Barnabas Graham - love!
Barnabas Henry
Barnabas Julian - good
Barnabas Matthew - This is nice. I've been thinking about Matthew since Sunday, too. I've always disliked it, but some lady thought my son's name was Matt and it actually didn't sound all that bad. Ha!
Barnabas Owen
Barnabas Pascal - oh yes, I need more Pascal combos!
Barnabas Paul
Barnabas Peter
Barnabas Richard
Barnabas Roland
Barnabas Theodore
Barnabas William - but William makes just about any combo good!
Barnabas Yves :)

Barnabas Declan
Barnabas Victor
Barnabas Benedict
Barnabas Oliver
Barnabas Zane
Barnabas Ezra

Mmm Barnabas Benedict. Fun.I really like Barnabas Declan. After Bear's suggestion of Barnabas Conor, I think it goes well with Irishy things.I want to like Barnabas Ezra, but I think the -as Ez- is kind of awkward to say.

That is true. I didn't think about the endings when I smooshed Barnabas and Ezra together. Haha.I really like Barnabas Benedict for some reason. It's fun to say. :D

Ahhhhhhh Barnabas Cyril! I think that's the one! :DI like a lot of these other ones though:
Barnabas Andrew
Barnabas Peter
Barnabas Henry
Barnabas Conor - oh, second favorite methinks
Barnabas John
Barnabas Stephen - love
Barnabas Owen - loveYou are made of win.ETA: For no apparent reason, Barnabas Eric popped into my head and I really like that, too. I thought I'd let you know because aren't you the one who likes Eric? :)

I do love Eric (and the combo eric Somerled), but I think it might be someone else your'e thinking of. The "ehr-" sound at the beginning is very fetching. Oddly, I too thought of Barnabas Eric so you may be on to something there. Then again, the styles are a bit at odds with each other. I'm picturing a wise old man from the Middle East in snow shoes. :-/

I live near a St. Barnabas church :)I really like the name Barnabas. I was in quite the Barnaby phase for a long time, but I think Barnabas is also excellent. It's a little bit fustier, a bit more serious, less sleek than Barnaby. I agree on its down-to-earth nature (the barn beginning no doubt indeed). It makes me think of a rotund monk in worn woolen robes. As for a non-Barney nickname, hmm, that's a tough one. Nab maybe? Arnie! Barn? combos, well, Barnabas Paul came to me right away, that's a bit conservative but in a nice way. I really want to pair it with something short yet serious.Barnabas Henry
Barnabas Jude
Barnabas Friar
Barnabas Jack
Barnabas John
Barnabas Clark
Barnabas Franklin
Barnabas Hugo / Barnabas Hugh
Barnabas Leo

I'm loving Barnabas Jude and Barnabas Hugo / Hugh! Barnabas Leo too.

Nab is good! And Arnie, maybe, I'd actually thought of that earlier. I could get used to it if it would stop making me think of What's Eating Gilbert Grape.Barnabas Paul and Barnabas Henry are perfect. I wanted to ask others to make combos because I knew I'd like Barnabas best with names of that sort, and was wondering if something more offbeat might pop up!
Barnabas Friar - awesome, and not too overpoweringly monk-like since I didn't get the monk image first off :)
Barnabas John - like a lot. I know John is plain, but I'm a sucker for it as a mn.
Barnabas Clark - This is kind of interesting. Sounds like the name of some sort of trickster pilot.
Barnabas Leo - I think I like this. Barnabas feels really mature and is warm colored, and Leo feels youthful and is cool colored, and so I like the juxtaposition.
