From the most noble house of Fakiris,
In the mighty kingdom of Ontolakis.
Edmonda is 12 now, and according to Ontolakian traditions, she's old enough to be engaged now. Girls usually don't marry until they're 16 years or older, but they are engaged a lot earlier, especially girls in noble families. Lav is negotiating with
Nahuel, king of Auca, to engage
Edmonda to
Nahuel's son
Kato. Lav isn't thrilled to arrange his daughter's wedding, since his own arranged marriage didn't turn out too good. He'd rather see
Edmonda marry out of love. Still,
Edmonda says she is happy to fulfill her role as princess. She says that it's her duty, and that she is happy complete her duties if it makes the country happy and secure.
Besides, Auca is a good country for women. Women in Auca are free and has the same rights as men.
Kato is a good boy too, even though he's more interested in sports than politics. Lav got a good impression of him, all in all.
Konstantina is the youngest to ever have an exhibition in the royal gallery in
Helios (the capitol of Ontolakis), only 10 years old. She and her mother have been painting almost everyday, and she's very talented. She's known to be a very sweet, innocent girl. In many ways, she is the complete opposite of
Edmonda. She doesn't care about politics, boys, philosophy or science, she's very naïve and shy. When she hear stories about her country's past with wars and conquests, her most common reaction is "But why are everyone so mad at eachother? Why can't they just live in peace? Why doesn't anyone think of the children and the animals?". Sometimes she even starts to cry. She's the most happy when she's out in the garden, painting or taking care of her dog, cat or chickens.
Ikenna and
Callisto are both 7 years old, and it's now impossible to hide from the people that
Ikenna has a brain injury. When he was younger, Lav tried to tell the people he was just a little slow. He tried to hide the sickness, so if
Ikenna would miraculously get better ... or well, maybe Lav only tried to say that there was nothing wrong with his son because he was so desperatly wishing for it to be true. But it isn't, and especially when compared to
Callisto everyone can see the difference between them.
Callisto is often forgotten, since everyone only notice the sad story of
Ikenna, the sick oldest-but-not-crown prince. But when one notices
Callisto, they see how beautiful and delightful she is. Since she is so "forgotten", she has almost had a normal up-bringing, without the typical attention that comes with being royal. If she goes outside the castle, no one notices her as a princess, and she've made friends with some of the sons and daughters of the staff of the castle and sympathize a lot with them. Of course she isn't allowed to play with children who isn't a part of the nobility, but Lav and
Selena have agreed that she is a gift from above, compared to
Ikenna, and that she should be allowed to do whatever makes her happy. They think, that she should live life to fullest since every day of her life is a blessing from above. When she's beside
Ikenna it's easy to see how fragile life is, and that's a reminder Lav and
Selena get every day.
Callisto also plays with Jerónimo, her adopted brother. They're typical brothers and sister; fight constantly.
Jerónimo has lived his entire life Ontolakis and is a part of the royal family. Lav calls him his son and treats him just like the other children, but still it's obvious that he's an outsider in Ontolakis. His hair and eyes makes him different, and mysterious. The people really despised him at first, but now, when he isn't a threat to the throne, they accept him. He plays a lot with
Erasmus. Even though they're exact opposites, they understand eachother. The people
LOVE Erasmus, where they disapprove of Jerónimo.
Selena adores Jerónimo, when she'd like
Erasmus' head on a platter. They both feel threatened by
Iason.
Iason, looking a lot like the foreign-looking Jerónimo, is not very appriciated by the people. The people can now sense how Lav and
Selena's marriage is failing, and
Iason is proof of one gap between them - their origin. One reason
Emmanouil arranged a marriage with
Selena was because she's Cordocian. Cordocia is an important business partnes to Ontolakis, but because of battles in the past, most Ontolakians have prejudistic thoughts about Cordocians.
Emmanouil thought that a queen from Cordocia might prove that Cordocians are good people. But now, when Lav and
Selena are falling apart (and
Selena is acting bitter and angry), the people dislike Cordocia even more. If there would actually be a divorce (very unusual, but it happens once in a while) between Lav and
Selena.. Would
Iason later, if he becomes the next king, be in favor for Ontolakis or Cordocia? Since he is looking so "different", most Ontolakians think he'll automatically be more Cordocian too.
Lav thinks this is silly - looks doesn't change personality or opinions or where he truly belongs! Or does it? Only time will tell.
Since
Iason was born, three other children have been born in the royal family, all girls. First
Artemis, now a two-year-old. She's sweet but cries a lot, which makes
Demi irritated. But as it has turned out, Lav spends most of his nights at
Demi's, so when
Artemis wakes up in the night, Lav usually take care of her. It's not really OK for a king to spend more of his time with his mistress than his wife, but Lav keeps it a secret - only a few members of the staff knows about it.
Selena has silently accepted it - she doesn't want to sleep in the same bed as him anyway. Then, just a nine months after
Artemis' birth,
Demi was pregnant again! Lav was very happy, and
Demi too - until she started to suffer very much from her pregnancy. She could barely move and was in a lot of pain. The doctors said, that she'd better move into a "rest-house" up in the mountains with a lot of good air.
Demi did so, leaving her beloved
Erasmus and
Artemis. Lav took good care of them, but of course he missed
Demi a lot, and was worried.
Selena on the other hand was happy - secretly wishing
Demi would die giving birth, she started to soften against Lav. One thing led to another, and
Selena found herself pregnant again!
First
Demi came down with another girl -
Rhea. It was a very painful birth and
Demi bled a lot. The doctors are afraid she's now infertile. Lav was very sad to hear this, but
Demi tried to comfort him by saying that she has already carried three of his children and that they're all fine.
Then
Selena gave birth to
Kassandra. Also she said that it was the last child she'd carry - not that the pregnancy was painful or anything, but ... well, when
Demi had been away,
Selena had told herself that maybe Lav would fall in love with her again. But when
Demi came back it was too obvious that Lav would never let go of
Demi. In rage
Selena swore she'd never let Lav touch her again.
Without letting anyone know,
Selena has sneeked out of town a couple of time and met
Despina - Lav's crazy and power-mad sister.
Selena and
Despina have made a deal.
Selena should flee the country with
Konstantina,
Ikenna,
Callisto, Jerónimo,
Iason and
Kassandra, and try to find people in Cordocia who still support the royal family she came from. Then
Despina should kill
Emmanouil, Lav,
Edmonda,
Demi,
Erasmus,
Artemis and
Rhea.
Selena doesn't want to leave
Edmonda behind, but she is just too patriotic to ever abandon her country or her father, especially not like this.
Despina has a son of her own, 6 years old. He could easily be the next crown prince if all other options were .. "eliminated".
How will this end?
