I prefer the rhythm of Columbine, and also the fact that it is not in any way gender-ambiguous. Give a girl the name Columba and you are being needlessly inaccurate; give it to a boy and the explanations of why it ends in an -a will never end.

I know a woman called Columbine, a very tough high-school principal, and it suits her well. But I've never met a Columba. There's a church near where I live called St Columba's, and it frequently appears in the media as St Columbus!
