[Opinions] India
What do you think of India? Is it usable or should it stay a guilty pleasure name? I just watched Gone with the Wind (I'm sick at the moment so I'm watching way too much TV) and even though I'm not a fan of the character I like the name. Do you think India is strongly associated with the movie and the character? Do you think it's trashy/tacky like Brooklyn or something? Do you know anyone with the name? She'd always be India, not Indy.
Some combos, please tell me what you think of them:
Noah India, Noah Olivia, Noah Sofia or Noah Isabella?
India Belle? India Kallisto? India Seraphine? India Eve?
Any more suggestions?
Thanks :)

No way
You have India Eve as one of your combos- I babysit a little India Eve Bess! (2 middle names) She's six, and too adorable for words so I love the name, although I do slightly prefer Indira. It's off limits for me, but I love it for someone else.
Oh, and her siblings are Harrison Geoffrey John, Summer, Bindi Ashley Tess and Trinity Victoria Cash. I still haven't been able to find Summer's middle names, which bugs me immensley.
I've never seen the movie, so I don't associate it with that, and I dont think the name is trrashy, although it is a little trendy.
I like Noah Olivia and Noah Sofia. India Seraphine and India Eve.
India Frances
India Sophia
India Delphine
India Liron
India Maryam
India Madeleine
India Jemima

Yep, I'm from Australia. I wouldn't say common, but I've seen it a fair few times in birth announcements. It's definitely around. It's hard to tell here because the most we get is a Top 50, and the last I checked it didn't make that list.
Bess is the mum's maiden name.
I'm not sure why they named her Bindi. Knowing them, I'd say it's more likely that they got the idea from her, rather than naming her after Bindi Irwin, if that makes sense. Like, parents naming their child Miley because they heard it and liked it, rather than naming her after Miley Cyrus. BIndi Irwin put it in the spotlight here. I personally can't get past the prickly plant association, but I guess they could *shrugs*

India is my cousin's name. I didn't like it at first, but I have grown to like it. I originally associated it with the GWTW character, but my cousin really changed that for me. I like India Seraphine a lot.
India was my top girl name for about ten years. I think of it as strictly a GP now. I don't think it's trashy, and I don't think it's too closely associated with India Wilkes. As far as I'm concerned, India is the very best of the place names. I love it, and I love all the saffron-tinted images it brings to my mind.
I don't have any deep personal connection to India as a place. I've never even been there. That, and the justifiable accusation that India (the name) is an "imperialism-tainted relic," makes me a little uncomfortable with using it as a fn.
From your combos, I prefer Noah Sofia and India Serephine. India Eve and India Belle are both too phrasey for my tastes.

I like it for a boy

Meloves! :)
Hence the posting name... ;)
I think it's very usable, not just a GP. To me it doesn't sound trashy at all, and I think it's popular enough (without being very popular) that people wouldn't automatically come up with the Gone With The Wind association when they hear it.
From your combos, I like Noah Sofia, India Seraphine India Belle best. Other India combos I like...
India Roseanne
India Violet
India Andromache
India Modesty
India Paige
India Janine
India Josephina
India Loveday

I always think of the country. That's all I can think of. I never thought of the character in Gone with the Wind.
I'm not so crazy about your Noah combos, as I can't picture the name on a girl at all. I know its a unisex name, but I have a male cousin with this name so maybe I'm a little biased. I like India Belle and I like India Seraphine ok, but I think India Seraphina would be better. How about India Isabella? They both begin and end with the same sounds, but I kinda like it.

I don't like India. It's too much of a country's name and not a person's. It's like the people who name their daughter Ireland. Weird.
I didn't realize it was a character in Gone with the Wind (I'm a bad person and haven't read that or seen the movie, though I want to do both!) That makes me accept it a little bit more.
I do think India does sound tacky and a little trashy. I don't know anyone named India.
Noah Sofia is my favorite out of the Noah combos, and India Belle out of the India ones. It has a nice ring to it (pun not intended). :)

I like India - I don't think it's trashy at all - in fact to me it's a middle class, slightly arty name. India is the sister of Caspian and Alfie for me.
I do have issues with country names in general but I'd use India.
I don't think it's especially associated with TGWTW character, thankfully - wasn't India Wilkes prissy and spiteful.
(Veering OT a bit - I think Honey is sweet but it's a bit trashy.)

I love it. I don't think it's too strongly associated with the character. And even if it were, think of how strongly Scarlett was associated with the Gone With the Wind character. So strongly that, in spite of the vast popularity of the book and the movie, Scarlett went nowhere as a name for at least sixty years after the book was published. In spite of the fact that Scarlett is, in my opinion, a great name. All it took was a few brave souls to start using Scarlett, and the more it's used, the less it becomes solely associated with the character.
No, I don't think India is at all tacky the way Brooklyn is, and is completely usable. I've never known an India, though.

I love the name India, and I think it's way more workable than Brooklyn or something. It's pretty, feminine, and I don't think it has too many connections with Gone with the Wind.
Combos, okay, I like Noah Sofia or Noah Isabella the best, but I don't really like Noah on a girl. India Kallisto is beautiful (I think I'd like India Callista more though) and I LOVE India Eve. How about India Celeste, India Jane, India Winter, or India Selene?
