Archaic French vernacular form of ADELINDE found in the Poitou-Charentes region. Today, the name is occasionally found in the Netherlands and in Afrikaans-speaking South Africa. In this case, however, the origin of the name is uncertain; it might be an adoption of the French name, but it is equally possible that it is a modern coinage, perhaps based on DOLLY and names that end in -linde.
