I think this name is really cool, it has a lot of personality and reminds me of the hit film Space Buddies where the cosmonaut from Russia is called Yuri. I really like that film, it has talking dogs in it.

A famous bearer of the name is the incredibly cute and talented Russian singer, Yuri Shatunov. He's most commonly known as Yura, or Yuroshka to his fans.

I think this is an interesting name. My brother has a friend called Yuri. His friend Yuri tells him it's the Russian form of "John."

Another spelling of the name is "Yurii": in Boris Pasternak's hearbreaking novel about the Russian Revolution, "Doctor Zhivago," the protagonist, a doctor and poet, bears this variation of the name, commonly going by the nicknames "Yura" and "Yurochka". Another bearer of the name is the hero of the acclaimed video game series, "Shadow Hearts," though he only uses one i.
