When I think of Wally I think of that old favorite cartoon of mine when I was little Wally Beatles from Codename: Kids Next Door. Except that his name was short for Wallabee.
In Europe 'Wally' pronounced Valli can be a lady's name as evidenced by the famous opera "La Wally" by Alfredo Catalani from which comes a very beautiful aria.

If you want an awesome name then use my friend's name Walle! Just like the movie but better! His name is awesome so use it for your kids and they will be happy! Go Walle! AWESOME NAME! Yeah for the name Walle!
A famous bearer of this name is Valerie "Wally" Neuzil. She was the model and mistress of 20th century Vienna Secession artist Egon Schiele and also modelled for Gustav Klimt. She is featured in Schiele's 1912 "Portrait of Wally."

Here in Britain if you call someone a Wally it means they're an idiot!

This is quite a funny story. My little brother and my dad went fishing, and my little brother caught a walleye. He named it Wally and wanted to keep it for a pet. He cried when Dad said no, and a few days later, they had it for dinner! So, now, whenever I hear the name I think of the fish, so I don't like it.
I disagree that the name is boring. It is my nickname and so far it's been one that many people like to use in place of my real name; and it stands out very much among the more common nicknames people could be given. My nickname however is pronounced W-a-lee.
Boring! Wally is something I would name a pet parrot or something. I think this nickname does not fit the character on LITB.

Wally Cleaver from the series Leave it to Beaver. His name is Wallace and they call him 'Wally' for short so it can be a nickname for Wallace. I think it sounds cute even more because it reminds me of the character and sounds better than the whole name.
