I like Vivien for a boy and Vivian for a girl. Just my opinion. I would also use Vivien as a middle name, just as Vivian, to honor my grandmother Vivian.
Oh dear, I am sad to see most comments saying this name is way too feminine... It's not a feminine name at all just because of your opinion on what the name sounds like. If you live in or come to French-speaking countries, people there would assume she is a boy. Likewise, if I met a girl called Vivien, I would assume her parents wanted a boy. Vivien is always a male name and will never be feminine, so use Vivienne instead! It's simple!
Vivian is my sweet grandmother's name, and Vivien with the E is more suitable for boys in my opinion. (I don't like this name on a boy)I feel the same with the name Rowan. I think with the A it's more feminine, and I prefer Rowen for a boy. (I don't like Rowan or Rowen on a boy, but I prefer it on a girl spelled as R-o-w-a-n).
I adore this name for a little boy. I also like the spelling Vivian. In the US, I think it is a beautiful unisex name. It feels very classic and I believe it will age well.
Despite the fact that this name is supposedly masculine, 86% voted it feminine, me including...

I like this spelling better than the English version. It's so pretty and has a flair to it. It makes me think of a woman who is tall, with olive skin, dark eyes and wavy hair, and wears a garland of Lavender. She's plump but not fat, and is very classy. It's an older name and not overly used. So regal and graceful. I'd consider this for my daugter in the future.
To excuse my mix-up with the gender of this name, I'd name my daughter Vivienne*. For some reason I thought this was more feminine spelling of Vivian. Well I hope I made the guys with this name feel pretty ;)
