Gender Feminine
Meaning & History
Feminine form of Veronus. The most notable bearer of this name is the 9th-century folk saint Verona of Leefdaal. At the time, the village was located in Frankish territory, but today it is situated in the region of Flanders in Belgium. Saint Verona was the twin sister of saint Veronus of Lembeek and a great-granddaughter of Charlemagne (748-814). There is some doubt as to whether she ever existed, but if she did, then she might possibly be the same person as the blessed Verona of Leuven/Mainz (9th century), with whom she is often confused.
