Well, that is odd that a name in the apocrypha would become popular because of the Protestant Reformation. Protestant bibles don't include the apocrypha!
My best friend has this name so I'm most likely biased but it's an overall nice sounding name!

This name is really neat, and I can totally get behind all the different pronunciations, however you want to say the name. Regardless, the name looks and sounds really cool.

My name is Tobias! I could list a lot worse than the name Tobias. I thank my parents (RIP) for the name all the time...“Be Good - Do Good!” ― TOBIAS DAVIDSON.
I’ve named my first born son Tobias, after the Dutch Tobias Asser the founder of the international Peace Court in Hague, and winner of the Nobel prize for peace. In Belgium and in the Netherlands this name is pronounced like “To’Bee-As” rather than “Toe-Bias” how it would be normally pronounced by an English speaker. It’s a name that never gets old and is easy to remember.
You must be saying it wrong, its to-bi-as not too-by-us.

Honestly makes me picture a younger man whom the ladies would all die for. I like it, and in my opinion I think it's a better alternative to the rather popular 'Toby.'

I love the name Tobias because of its own biblical meaning and history. My first son is Tobias.
My first girlfriend insisted she would name her son "Tobias." I made her watch all three seasons of Arrested Development in hopes of changing her mind. I cannot hear "Tobias" without thinking of the Arrested Development character. Also my childhood dog was "Toby," which kind of limits that name's staying power. I would never give my child this name, even if nobody else is making fun of him, I feel like I am whenever I feel the urge to call him by name.

Toby Curtis is a character in the TV series Scorpion. The full character name is Tobias.
I love this name! Especially the biblical meaning behind it and the fact that it is uncommon in the United States. My son, Tobias Judah will be born December 2017.

Tobias Schweinsteiger is a retired German footballer and now assistant manager of the Bayern Munich under-17 team. As player he was deployed as a midfielder or forward. He is the older brother of German international and Manchester United player Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Tobias is my last name. I've always loved my last name, as it has always stood out among the Smiths and Leonards and whites and Browns of the crowds. My family is of Czech descent and the name dies with my sister and I, so I will be using it as a first name for my "son" (hoping I have one!)
A gorgeous, masculine, and distinctive name with a long history of use. I love that it's not very common in the US, but don't love the religious aspect or the nickname Toby that much. Tobias Menzies is a wonderful English actor from the Outlander TV show.

Means God is good! What can get better than that? Toby is a cute nickname too.
The name Tobias has grown on me. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first but after saying this name again and again I now LOVE this name! It's classy, handsome and pretty refreshing, actually. :)

I absolutely love this name. I named my son Tobias, who passed away peacefully as a still born with trisomy 18. He was healed by God, the doctors told us he had all these body abnormalities and he was only born with one. The meaning of the name is very powerful! I love you baby boy Tobias, Mommy misses you.
My younger brothers name is Toby; named after my father's best friend who died of cancer. I just love this name. It's sweet and boyish but it's nice and professional for an adults name. If I have children I would like to name my son Toby.
Tobias Eaton is the real name of Four in the Divergent trilogy.

I'm not a huge fan of this name. Seeing it for the first time, it's easy to mispronounce, and it also blatantly has the word 'bias' right at the end of it.

I am in love with the name Tobias. I thought Tobias is such a great name; too bad it is not popular in Hungary. (I like popular names.) I would totally give it, and by now, I do not even care if Tobias is not popular in Hungary (yet?). :) It is such a cute name!

I first came across this name in the Animorphs series and at the start, it felt quite an unusual name, but it's definitely grown on me since and now I find it's a really nice, strong and natural-feeling name. One of my favourites.A side-effect though of first finding this name from Animorphs (as previously mentioned as the boy who's stuck as a falcon) I will always associate this name with flying.
Tobias Smollett (19 March 1721 – 17 September 1771) was a famous Scottish 18th-Century novelist, famous for writing such works as The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens.I also think this is rather a lovely name, and Toby is a great nickname. :)
Tobias Ragg was a fictional character in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Stephen Sondheim. He was the dimwitted young man who sang to advertise both a hair growth elixir, and then Mrs. Lovett's pies.
It's funny; I used to think this was a really weird name, but now I adore it! It's so masculine, intelligent and amazing. Simply amazing. Any boy would be lucky to have this name. During his childhood, he could call himself Toby.
When I told my friend that if I ever had a baby boy I would name him Tobias, she started to laugh at me and said "That poor kid!" But I don't care, and will have to agree with most of the comments here; Tobias is a wonderful name, and the fact that not many people have it makes it even better. I think some good pet names would be Toby, Tobe, or Tobes.
I've always loved the name Tobias, and the only experience I've had in meeting one was great too. Most people don't seem to like the nickname Toby though which I don't understand because I like that as well, it makes the name less formal and the people bearing it more approachable.
My sister wants to name her first son Tobias. I really like it, it's a timeless classic! Although I don't really like the nickname Toby, I prefer Tobias. Some names are good the way they are, they don't need a nickname.
