Meaning & History
Tifa Lockhart is a character in the massively popular and highly acclaimed 1997 role-playing game game Final Fantasy VII. Contrary to popular belief, Tifa is not a contraction of name Tiffany or the Kabbalah concept Tiferet (beauty). The etymology of Tiffany has no relevence to Final Fantasy VII, and many of the characters in RPGs name's have significant meanings, about their personality or traits (for example, Tifa's surname, Lockhart - Locked Heart). Tifa is simply a beautiful, made-up name, designed to sound pretty, unique and memorable. The "i" and "a" in the name is to preserve a trend where heroines in the Final Fantasy series have similar sounding names e.g Maria and Reina.
