Meaning & History
Derived from Baltic tauta meaning "people, nation" (see Vytautas) combined with the Lithuanian verb rimti meaning "to calm down, to quieten". It is related to the Lithuanian adjective ramus meaning "calm, quiet, peaceful" (see Ramūnas) and the Lithuanian noun ramybė meaning "tranquility, peace, quiet". As such, the meaning of this name is basically "(a) people of peace" and thus likely refers to a peaceful nation that has not seen war in a (very) long time.In other words: this given name is basically the same as Rimtautas, but with the name elements in different places.
