Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Lithuanian verb rimti meaning "to calm down, to quieten". It is related to the Lithuanian adjective ramus meaning "calm, quiet, peaceful" (see Ramūnas) and the Lithuanian noun ramybė meaning "tranquility, peace, quiet". The second element of this name is derived from Baltic tauta meaning "people, nation" (see Vytautas). As such, the meaning of this name is basically "a calm people" and thus likely refers to a peaceful nation that has not seen war in a (very) long time.
