Meaning & History
In the Elamite pantheon, Simut was a herald god - although there are also sources who claim that he was a tutelary god (with one source even speculating that he might have been an astral deity). It is uncertain what the meaning of his name was in the Elamite language. He was married with the goddess Manzat and he was often referred to with an epithet that meant "God of Elam". At least three Elamite kings were named in his honour (which is consistent with the fact that nearly all rulers of Elam bore theophoric names).
