Meaning & History

From the word Samaritan, referring to the people of Samaria. In the Bible, Luke 10:25-37 tells the parable of the Good Samaritan, where a Samaritan man helped another man who had been robbed. Because of the parable, the term “Good Samaritan” has been used to describe a charitable person who helps or assists someone else, especially a stranger.
