Meaning & History
Derived from Italian salimmo meaning "we went up" combined with Italian bene meaning "good". Also compare Ognibene. There are also sources that believe that the name is entirely Hebrew in origin, and thus consider it to be a Jewish name. They derive the first element from either Hebrew שָׁלוֹם (shalom) meaning "peace" or Hebrew שולם (shulam) meaning "paid". Also compare the Arabic name Salim, which is etymologically related to the former option. The second element of the name is said to come from Hebrew בֵּן (ben) meaning "son".
