Saffrijn

Variant of Saffraan or (dutchization of) Saffron. It was probably created in an attempt to make either name more feminine and/or palatable to mainstream Dutch society, as the aforementioned two names are neither traditional nor obviously feminine by Dutch standards.

Lastly, even though it is very unlikely to be related, you might want to compare the Dutch term saffrijn-slijpen, which refers to a specific technique of grinding glass. Here, saffrijn is a dutchization of French chanfrein meaning "chamfer, bevel" (obtuse-angled relief or cut at an edge). The term is typically only known by those who work with glass (either for a living or for a hobby), so it's not something that the general public is acquainted with. As such, the chances that parents were inspired by it are almost nil.
