Meaning & History
From the characters 穷 (qióng, meaning “to reach a limit” or “poor”) and 蝉 (chán, meaning “cicada”). This name was borne by one of the sons of Zhuanxu who was given ownership of the Gumu (姑幕) Kingdom. He is ancestor to the sage-king Shun, who like Zhuanxu is regarded as one of the Five Emperors.
