Also compare the Dutch verb pinkelen meaning "to shine" as well as "to twinkle, to sparkle, to flicker".In Dutch literature, this is the name of the wife of Pinkeltje Witbaard (his surname translates to Whitebeard in English), a white-bearded gnome who is the main character of the popular children's book series Pinkeltje written by Dick Laan (1894-1973).
