Short form of masculine names that are derived from Greek and Latin pascha meaning "Easter" as well as "Passover", such as Paschalis, Pascharius and Paschasius and their Dutch forms.

This name was once quite common, especially in the Middle Ages (during which time it was spelled as Paes). These days it is extinct, but it still survives in several patronymic surnames, such as Paas and Paes.
