Meaning & History
This is the epithet of the god Humban and he was almost exclusively known by this name in later times. It means "Great God" in Elamite, derived from Elamite nap or napir "god" combined with Elamite risha or rišarra "great" (also compare Elamite rishair). At least three Elamite kings bore this name in the god's honour (which is consistent with the fact that nearly all rulers of Elam bore theophoric names), one of them being Untash-Napirisha, who lived in the 13th century BC.
