From the characters 罗 (luó, meaning “silk gauze”) and 敷 (fū, meaning “to lay out”). Qin Luofu (秦罗敷) is a character who appears in the folk song poem “Mulberry by the Road” (陌上桑) from the Eastern Han dynasty (25 - 220 CE). She is an exceptionally beautiful maiden who picks mulberry leaves. The poem relates how her beauty attracts the local prefect, and how she rebuffs his advances by describing in detail her ideal husband.
