Meaning & History

Derived from Greek κεραυνός (keraunos) "lightning, thunderbolt" combined with Greek φορεω (phoreo) "to carry, to bear". For the latter element, also compare Greek φερω (phero), which has the same meaning. Keraunophoros was a nickname attributed to the god Zeus and sometimes also to Alexander the Great.
