In the 1994 TV anime 'Tonde Burin', the main character's name is Karin Kokubu/ Kokubu Karin (国分果林). In this instance, it's used as a Japanese name. The particular kanji used here for Karin are 果 (fruit, reward, etc) and 林 (forest, grove).

Hello. My name is Karin (Care-Rehn). While in Germany as a a teenager, I found my name to be common there. I asked how they would pronounce it, and they said it the same way I do. Personally it drives me nuts to be called Cah-rin, but that is due to association. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents. :D I do have a wonderful friend who's name is Carren (Car-Rehn), and I think it's beautiful. It drives her nuts, because nobody get's it right.
My name is Karin. Some people call me Kaatje which is a Dutch pet name. It's pronounced as kahtja. There only a few special people who may call me this.
Karin is also a popular Japanese girls' name meaning quince in English. It's also the name of the main character in my fav show! Kamichama Karin! Karin pronounced KAH-REEN! I love it.
I am a Karin (pronounced CAR-in), but I also know a Karin who pronounces it like Karen. Most Karins I've met (which are few and far between where I'm from) pronounce it the way I do.
In the Netherlands it is a very popular name for the generation of women who are at this moment between 35 and 55 years old. My mother's name is Karin and I know at least 10 other people, even in my class, whose mothers are also called Karin.

In Dutch you pronounce it as: KAH-rin. So I agree it isn't Karen. [noted -ed]

I love this name, since it's my name. But it can get annoying sometimes when people pronounce it like Karen. I always say, (not in earshot of anybody) "if it isn't spelled like Karen it shouldn't be pronounced like Karen." My mom's friend even spelled my name Caren! Anyway, yes, this is a great name, despite it's tendency to be misunderstood. Where I live this is a very uncommon name.
