Scripts 九凤(Chinese, Japanese Kanji)
Meaning & History
From a combination of the characters 九 (jiu, meaning “nine”) and 凤 (feng, meaning “phoenix”). This is the name of a deity mentioned in the Shanhaijing (山海经), or Classic of Mountains and Seas. It has nine heads with human faces and a bird’s body. Some believe it comes from the Chu culture of southern China, where phoenixes and the number nine were venerated.
